An Addition to My Limbaugh Post: Even President Reagan Praised Unions
July 11, 2011A frequent commentator on this site, John, brought the video below to my attention. On August 3, 1981, President Reagan praised unions saying, “I respect the right of workers in the private sector to strike. Indeed, as president of my own union, I led the first strike ever called by that union. I guess I’m maybe the first one to ever hold this office who is a lifetime member of an AFL – CIO union.”
He said this before terminating striking air traffic controllers, but this video illustrates the point I was making in the post below. Like Rush took Romney’s statement out of context, I too could simply post the above quote without placing it in its full context and subsequently try and say Reagan is pro-union. That, however, would be incorrect. Romney, like Reagan, fully understands the destructive role unions all too often play. To try and say otherwise is simply disingenuous.

Kayleigh, that John guy seems awfully smart (modest too)! Too bad he's old and happily married (on Reagan's birthday no less…1982 not 1911).
I've seriously been exposed to more Reagan on this site than ever before. I really enjoy all these videos. Fire me up.
Properly done, unions are simply an addition to the free market. They should totally exist. But when unions begin to be destructive, it should be the right of any company to fire them all.
